I got a beautiful 12-cup food processor from KitchenAid! Also, every episode of the West Wing ever made.

Using this %25 off coupon for in store purchases at Indigo/Chapters, I picked up the newsstand-only Holiday Baking issue of Cooks Illustrated.
I instantly realized what I was going to be doing today: Plum Pudding in advance for New Years Eve, Mincemeat Pie (little tarts, actually) in advance for Christmas Day.
Of course, I wanted to find a good bowl for the Plum Pudding considering it has to cure for a week and I didn't want to deplete our already dwindling bowl population. Lynn Valley Zellers had a disappointing selection of Pyrex offerings *tut*. Next, I tried Winners. No bowl was forthcoming, BUT I FOUND A CUPCAKE COURIER!

I've been lusting after the Cupcake Courier since forever but they had mostly always been sold in the States. I got a weak substitute a few summers ago at a poorly stocked Tar-jay in Bellingham, but then sold it a few months ago in a pre-move cleanse.
Anyway, for a mere $24.99 + tax I am the proud new owner of a Cupcake Courier. Holla!
I'm off now off to add Plum Pudding and Mincemeat Pie (tarts) to my 2009 holiday repertoire of Dark Fruit Cake, Chocolate Dipped Pretzels, and Cooks Illustrated Shortbread!

Last night, I was once again a victim of racism. I can't help but wonder if it is I who attracts racism, or if this happens to fellow non-Caucasian people just as often. We went out to a little intimate concert in Downtown Eastside where Erin lives, and later left to take the bus at Cordova and Main street back to North Van. Two women were there and began trying to speak Chinese at us. "What are you, Mandarin? Cantonese? I'm speaking your language. Show some respect. You're in our country. You're just being ignorant. Why are you so ignorant?" As other times, I am just too stunned to say anything back. Is that an excuse for not standing up for myself? I really need to be a stronger person... Anyway, Mike steps up and becomes a man and tries to reason with the women. One of them goes, "What are you, White? I'm not talking to you. Stop talking." Apparently we missed our bus. So we just walked away and hung out at Erin's a little longer...
A great memory for my cousin visiting from Hong Kong.
ps. Vanessa, if you're reading this: why do you attract boys while I attract racism? Hmmm....

Excited for there to be a fourth cell phone company in Canada: welcome Wind Mobile.
I was really intrigued by this comment after the CBC article: "Can't wait for WIND to come to Vancouver.... with unlimited data, including tethering, and unlimited Canada wide calling for only $70 a month, I can cancel my home phone and home internet.... which will save me over $70 a month! Will be interesting to see how the big 3 respond."
Wind's website is down right now. Too much excited traffic no doubt. Can't wait to get a look at what sort of service wil be offered though.
Update: When my 3-year Rogers plan ends at the end of Aug. 2010, I want: the Wind approved Samsung Gravity 2 phone (one time $150 + HST) + the Wind Chat plan (not a contract, first month free, can change or leave any time, $20 + HST/month) + the Wind Voicemail Add-on ($5 + HST/month). Of course, we still have to wait for Vancouver to get coverage.
Thoughts? How does wind stack up next to your own cell service?

Lululemon: Hey! Lookit our humorous clothing line called “Cool Sporting Event That Takes Place in British Columbia Between 2009 & 2011 Edition.”
VANOC: “We expected better sportsmanship from a local Canadian company than to produce a clothing line that attempts to profit from the Games but doesn’t support the Games or the success of the Canadian Olympic team.”
Me: Bitch, please! If the Olympics Superstore in The Bay in downtown Vancouver isn't solely a last ditch attempt to turn around HBC's multi-decade profit slump, then I'm a hockey puck! One pair of red mittens does not a philanthropist make.
Source via an LJ Post.
PS-- I must get to a Lulu immediately! I want, I want! (Or at drag my sister there once she gets home on Sunday.)
PPS-- Most of the comments at the source are interesting. For example, if I bought a piece of lulu, I will still be supporting VANOC and the Olympics: to the tune of 5% GST and 7% PST.
